It had only been a scant few hours since the experiment had concluded.

The accumulated data was still being processed when every single living being in the lab, simultaneously shuddered.

... Something was off. The psychic pokemon present could feel a presence... almost. As if at the very edge of their 6th sense.

Any nearby humans could feel a mounting tension, as if they were being observed.

But only one person would notice the one thing out of place.

A simple, pink cone left on top of a desk. Unnoticed and seemingly forgotten.

Ameena ran a hand down her face, exhausted. Her participants were back where they belonged. Her Alakazam had helped place small trackers in the third-party grunts she had hired to kidnap the participants to begin with. She was running out of psychics to exhaust, so permitting her NDA-bound tech team to track these civilians would help her when she needed to gather them for a Rocket ruling - though, she had no idea if they would be sentenced to death or enrolled into some Rocket training plan, given they had been successful in the endeavor. [break][break]

Regardless. She was hard at work on her document, writing up all of her notes and preparing the data. She had to rush to get her thoughts together. She would be audited about this project, and she needed all the information gathered together in case they chose a hearing. They might choose something less considering. [break][break]

"What is that?" She did her best to keep everything in the laboratory grayscale. Only her small tools or samples were brightly colored for easier tracking. She reached for it.

As she reached out to the cone, it very subtly inched away from her grasp.

Not subtly enough that anyone with eyes would miss, of course, but the attempt had been made.

Eventually, it ran out of space to escape to, short of falling off the desk.

So it did just that, falling off and to the floor.

However, there was no clattering sound as it lande—

It was not on the floor.

Like a pen falling off a distracted student's hand, it had seemingly vanished to a netherealm the moment the woman lost sight of it, however briefly.

Did it fall to the floor without her interference?[break][break]

She sighed through her nose, pinching the bridge of her nose. She was objectively too tired for this. Being suddenly teleported to her lab earlier at the premature proct of her experiment had disrupted her plans, and it made her push her planned bed time several hours later. She very much preferred her eight hours. She knew firsthand how dangerous it was to do anything with a sleepy scientist. Performing the write-up and data synthesis with tired eyes was less than ideal.[break][break]

She stepped away from her computer and rounded the table, but nothing was there. "Gar, are you-?" But her Gardevoir was not, in fact, doing anything uncouth. She was communicating with the Porygon about data from the dream realm. So what had...?

A chill would run down the scientist's spine as she gazed over at her Gardevoir, the sensation of something hanging over her shoulder becoming stronger.

Any attempts at turning around to look, however, would be met with nothing. Maybe she should've done like her subjects and gone to sleep too...

However... if one tried to be particularly clever, and perhaps peek over to the glass cabinets...

An egg-ish ghost appeared to hover behind her.

Something was wrong. [break][break]

But pulling Gardevoir from her data submissions to Porgyon would only delay the quantifying of her project, and she needed to have results if she wanted to survive the coming storm. She feared the reprimand resting on the horizon. [break][break]

Her peripheral suggested something was behind her, based on the glass cabinets. She took a breath, first. This could not be any form of assassination, as no one would be stupid enough to attack her where all of her pokemon were. And they were all powerful psychics, for the most part. Gardevoir, in particular, was her strongest pokemon... [break][break]

So what, then? She forced herself to feel no panic. It would only tug on her telepathic bond with Gardevoir and distract the psychic from data. "What do you want?" She asked softly, aloud. She didn't suspect malicious intentions, given the lack of action thus far.

If she tried to look at the crystal surface again, she would notice the ghost was no longer behind her. And if she turned her attention to back to her desk—

She would notice a number of the vials containing ~~the sauce~~ the formula she had injected into her subjects earlier were... gone.

No, they were actually hovering around her hyperfocused Gardevoir.

And hanging out, directly behind her, was a... rare silhouette. Not the sort that belonged to any common pokemon, the round-ish, dark creature watching the data being transferred with a measure of interest, her head held in her palms.

Slowly, its head turned, cyan and magenta eyes gazing back at the woman.

"Okay," she said slowly. "Okay. Okay." She nodded her head as if accepting, but she wasn't, really. "I do not have need of it any more," she said quietly, more to herself than for the benefit of the force that took it. She knew the ratio for the concoction, but more importantly, it would need alterations based on the data she was currently reviewing. [break][break]

And then she saw it. It. Unmistakable. Ameena had spent too long in Alola studying Lele for a potential connection to the dream realm to not recognize it. Here? She couldn't - she needed to make the most of it. "Why take it?" [break][break]

Shit, her excitement, her curiosity, it was piquing the interest of her Gardevoir. Ameena could feel more attention on their telepathic link.

The corners of Tapu Lele's eyes curled slightly as if in a smile, the rest of Ameena's formula joining the ones he had already yoinked.

After all, she said she didn't need it. That it was fine.

As for why she had taken them... Unfortunately, amongst legendary pokemon, Tapu Lele stood on the silent end.

The woman would just have to make a few educated assumptions.

At least the legenadary hadn't ran away upon being clearly seen.

Should Ameena's Gardevoir turn around, beckoned by the woman's emotion, the scientist would get a first hand look at how Tapu Lele had been messing with her earlier, casually hovering in the other psychic type's blind spot with obvious amusement in her silent giggling.

She had a thousand questions as to what the Alolan fae would want with such mist, but she had no opportunity to interrogate the deity. Gardevoir whipped around, finally, and spotted the intruder. [break][break]

Ameena felt a small surge of anger through their connection. It was the only warning for - [break][break]

Gardevoir whipped a hand out and launched psychic at the creature. Simultaneously, Porygon buzzed unhappily as the data transfer procedure was abruptly interrupted. Simultaneously, Ameena shouted, "NO!" [break][break]
